This landmark investment not only protects the land from future development, but also strengthens the Authority’s ability to champion sustainable agriculture in the Santa Clara Valley. This win for open space and agriculture also lays the groundwork for a potential greenbelt separating Gilroy from San Martin. It’s a major step forward for agricultural conservation, wildlife connectivity and community resilience. Read our press release here and stay tuned for exciting updates as this project unfolds!

Magnificent Monarchs
Every winter, western monarch butterflies migrate south in search of warmer weather, ending their journeys in Mexico at the onset of Día de los Muertos celebrations. As a result, the monarch butterfly has become a cherished symbol in Mexican culture, representing the souls of departed loved ones returning to visit their families. However, western monarch populations are now at risk, facing steep declines due to extreme weather and habitat loss. Learn more about the monarch’s journey, its cultural significance and what’s being done to protect this iconic species in Santa Clara Valley.
