AUGUST 2026 | NEWS & EVENTS
We care for nature, so nature can care for you.
📽️ Featured Video: Grazing Grasslands to Prevent Wildfires🔥🚫
As a fifth generation rancher, Clayton Koopmann works tirelessly to care for the land and keep it healthy for people and wildlife. Through the Open Space Authority's conservation grazing program, we work closely with Clayton and his cattle to reduce the amount of dry vegetation and nonnative plants across the Santa Clara Valley.
Just days prior to the recent Sierra Fire at Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve, Clayton's herd of cattle grazed the preserve, slowing the spread of the fire and allowing fire personnel to quickly contain the blaze. Click the button below to hear about additional benefits of conservation grazing, including how it protects land, people and wildlife.

Construction is Underway at Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve*!
On June 22, the Open Space Authority kicked off construction to improve accessibility and enhance visitor experience at Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve. At the end of June, construction crews removed the existing shade structures, picnic tables and informational kiosk. Soon, the renovation team will dig up and widen the recreation trail to improve accessibility. A new layer of natural material will then be installed to create a stable trail surface that will make it easier for all future visitors to connect with nature!Stay tuned on our Instagram as we continue to share construction updates. *Psst: The preserve is still open during construction! Plan your visit here.
