Remembering Mike Flaugher

SVIS_Mike-Flaugher_A-Campusano_2024_edit

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mike Flaugher, our beloved Director of District 2. Director Flaugher represented communities from North San José, Berryessa and the City of Milpitas since 2014. Mike's many years of service to the Open Space Authority will be publicly honored on Thursday, March 27 during a public Board of Directors meeting. All members of the public are welcome to attend that meeting in person, or virtually. In the meantime, we invite you to read a heartfelt blog post featuring words from colleagues about Mike’s incredible contributions and legacy.

From the Field: From Small Wins, Bloom Big Hopes

Exciting news! For the first time, a single threatened fragrant fritillary—a delicate perennial flower—was discovered by one of our volunteers in a new location in Coyote Valley. This special species is included in the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Plan, (fun fact: it's also the star of the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Agency logo) and this sighting is a testament to the power of conservation efforts. A thrilling reminder of nature's resilience, this discovery gives hope for the fritillary's continued recovery.
