Calaveras Fault Trail Status Update

Due to the closure of Alum Rock Falls Road after the severe February, 2017 storms, the Open Space Authority acted as a good neighbor to allow short-term vehicular access to residents of Alum Rock Falls Road across the Calaveras Fault Trail in the eastern portion of Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve. Without this access, the residents would have no other means to access their homes.

At the Open Space Authority's Board meeting on December 14, 2017 the Authority Board of Directors and the City of San Jose reached an agreement that allows County residents of Alum Rock Falls Road to continue to use the Calaveras Fault Trail within the Authority's Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve to access their homes. This access will be allowed until the City of San Jose has repaired Alum Rock Falls Road, which is to occur no later than October 15, 2018.

Until Alum Rock Falls Road is reopened for residential access, the eastern portion of Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve will remain closed to recreational trail users. The Authority acknowledges the inconvenience this trail closure causes to our preserve visitors, and appreciates their patience and understanding while this temporary situation is resolved.

We welcome questions and comments from our preserve visitors regarding the trail closure. Please call us at 408-224-7476 or email us.
